Frequently asked questions

What is Consignment?

Consignment is a service provided by many different types of shops. Consignment is a business arrangement in which a business agrees to pay a seller, or consignor, for merchandise after the item sells.  The business accepts items for sale and agrees to pay the seller a percentage of the proceeds if and when the goods sell.  At the NU2U we keep it very simple. Anyone can bring us clothing or clothing accessories and we will sell it for them. We accept items for consignment Saturday, Sunday, Monday or Tuesday. A consignor is allowed to bring a maximum of 25 items within that 4-day period. Once an item sells the consignor is credited 50% of the sale price.  This money will then be paid to the consignor as cash, check or store credit.

How old do you have to be to have a consignment account?

You must be 15 years old to have a consignment account.

Do you buy/ trade clothing?

We only consign clothing. We do not buy items out right.  We also do not trade items in our store.

What is the difference between consignment and donation?

When donating items, an individual is giving away their items to the recipient without any form of payment or compensation. If you donate items to the NU2U you will be giving those items to the store for the benefit of the community and the store.

When consigning items, an individual must agree to our consignment contract. This contract defines the business agreement between the NU2U and the consignor. Following this agreement, the NU2U will sell clothing and clothing accessory items for the consignor. If and when these items sell the consignor will be credited 50% of the sale price of the sold items. This money will be paid to the consignor as cash, check or store credit.

Does NU2U consign furniture?

No, we do not consign furniture, household items or appliances.

Do you only take things seasonally?

We consign almost all clothing items year-round. However, the best selling items are the items in season. If you are hoping to make the most with your clothing items, consign them in season. It takes 2-3 weeks for your clothing items to go through the consignment process and be put out for sale. I you have season specific items please allow for this delay when you bring them in.

Do you wash the clothing before you sell it?

We consign thousands of items every week. As part of our consignment contract we state that the consignor is expected to bring in their consignment clothing clean. We do not wash. iron or mend clothing consignment before it is put on the racks for sale. Overly soiled or damaged items are eliminate and not consigned. NU2U recommends that shoppers wash items after they purchase them.

What happens to the items that the NU2U can not use out of my consignment bag?

In accordance with our contract, all none consignable items become property of NU2U. The majority of these items are donated to the Clothing Cottage. This Laramie thrift store has multiple ways they distribute donated items. They gift these items to people throughout the Laramie community. The NU2U assists the Clothing Cottage in shipping large quantities of clothing to 3rd World Countries.

How long will my consignment items be available for purchase ?

Each item in the NU2U is different. Unique and specialty items will be available on our sales floor much longer than average daily clothing items. These specialty items include, but are not limited to, vintage items, designer items, high-end jewelry and rare or exotic clothing items.  These items will be in our store for an extended period of time. They will likely be discounted after a time period ranging from 6 months to a year. The majority of these items will remain in the store until they sell.

Every-day items will be available at their full price value for a time period ranging from 1 to 3 months. After that time they will either be discounted to half price or will be eliminated from the NU2U sales floor.  These everyday items are discounted or eliminated based on the volume of clothing we are processing and space limitations.  Consignment items that do not sell become property of the NU2U.  The majority of these items are donated to the Clothing Cottage.  The NU2U also donates clothing items to a number of local organizations.
